Porto at Night: From the Ribeira to the Galerias de Paris

Porto is a city of hills, and its nightlife climbs one of them. The evening starts by the river in the Ribeira and ends in the lively streets behind the Clérigos Tower.

Start by the river

The Ribeira is the old riverfront of Porto, where merchants unloaded their goods for centuries. At night the Dom Luís I bridge is lit up over the Douro, and the terraces along the quay are the perfect place for a first glass of port. The historic centre of Porto has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

A city that named a country

The Romans called the settlement at the mouth of the Douro Portus Cale. The name grew into the County of Portucale and, in the end, into Portugal. It is a good story to tell over a glass of the wine that made the city famous.

Galerias de Paris

From the river, walk uphill to Rua das Galerias de Paris and Rua Cândido dos Reis. On weekend nights these streets are full of bars, music and people, from small taverns to busy cocktail bars, and the party moves from door to door.
