About this tour

Porto’s nightlife climbs the hill from the river to the old streets behind the Clérigos Tower, and this pub crawl follows the same path. The group meets in the Ribeira, the riverside square where merchants unloaded their goods for centuries, with the lights of the Dom Luís I bridge reflected in the Douro.

The night begins with a glass of port and a short story: the Romans called the settlement at the mouth of the Douro Portus Cale, and the name later gave the whole country its name. The historic centre of Porto has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

From the river, your host leads the way up to Rua das Galerias de Paris and Rua Cândido dos Reis, where bars, music and terraces fill the street until late. Expect a different atmosphere at every stop, from small taverns to busy cocktail bars.

It is an easy way to discover Porto at night if you are travelling alone, to meet people, or to start a night out with friends.

The origin story

Porto Portus Cale

The Romans called the settlement at the mouth of the Douro Portus Cale, and the name later gave the whole country its name. Porto grew on the steep granite bank of the river, its merchants traded wine with England, and its historic centre, from the Ribeira to the cathedral hill, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
