About this tour

Begin with the legendary story of D. Fuas Roupinho, the medieval knight whose miracle at the cliff of Nazaré saved his life and sealed the town’s destiny. Standing above the ocean, understand why this place became sacred to fishermen and feared by sailors.

As you descend to the village, continue the story through the wooden fishing boats pulled directly from the sea, the lives of fishermen who trusted the ocean with everything, and the women of Nazaré and the famous Seven Skirts, a symbol of identity, strength, and survival.

Learn about the daily rituals of faith, waiting, and return. Finally, connect past and present at Praia do Norte, where the same Atlantic that fed generations now produces the largest waves on Earth. Here, Nazaré became global — but without ever losing its soul.

This is not a surfing tour. It is a human story, where legends, traditions, and extreme nature meet.

The origin story

Nazaré Since 1182

Nazaré's story starts with a legend. In 1182 the knight Dom Fuas Roupinho was chasing a deer in the fog when his horse stopped at the edge of the cliff of Sítio, and he credited Our Lady of Nazaré with saving his life. A chapel and a sanctuary followed, and a fishing town grew on the beach below. Offshore, the Nazaré Canyon, one of the largest submarine canyons in Europe, focuses the swell into the giant waves of Praia do Norte.
