About this tour

Lisbon has two great nightlife quarters, and this pub crawl joins them in one night. Your local host meets the group in Chiado and leads the way into Bairro Alto, where hundreds of small bars open their doors onto narrow streets and the party spills outside.

Bairro Alto was laid out in the early 16th century as one of Lisbon’s first planned neighbourhoods. Its grid of steep lanes survived the earthquake of 1755, housed printers and newspapers for generations, and today is the city’s favourite place to meet for a drink. Between bars you hear the stories behind the streets, and you stop at a viewpoint to see Lisbon lit up from above.

As the night goes on, the group heads down the hill to Cais do Sodré. Once the sailors’ quarter by the port, it is now home to Rua Nova do Carvalho, the street painted pink and known as Pink Street, and to some of Lisbon’s liveliest late-night bars and clubs.

It is an easy way to see Lisbon’s nightlife if you are travelling alone, to meet people, or to start a big night with friends. The pace is relaxed and the route can change with the season and the day of the week.

The origin story

Lisbon Since 1147

Lisbon was a port long before it was a capital. Phoenicians, Romans and Moors traded here before Afonso Henriques took the city in 1147. From Belém, at the mouth of the Tagus, the ships of the Age of Discovery set sail, and the Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém still stand from that age of voyages. Every OriginTours day trip starts from this river.
